How to set up your home office correctly

To avoid those niggly aches and pains, it is important we set our home office up correctly.

1- Use a proper desk, dining table or surface that is the correct height

It may be initially comfortable lying in bed or sitting on the couch but if you are still doing an 8 hour day these are not a great support. Find a surface that is an appropriate height for your needs. Ideally it will be a combination of sitting and standing. Don’t have a standing desk at home? Think outside the box. Do you have a tall boy set of drawers in your bedroom, is the high bench in the kitchen or something you can put your laptop on so it is higher, allowing you to stand.

2- Have an appropriate chair

Is your dining chair comfortable? Can you bring your office chair home with you during this period? Try sitting on a swiss ball.

3- Get up and move

Just the same as in the office get up and move, ideally every 20-60minutes. Even just standing up, resetting your posture, rolling your shoulders, doing a quick stretch. Every hour go do a quick job, eg put the dishwasher on, put on a load of washing, make your bed. These small tasks put some movement back into your day.

4- Get outside

Although raining today, try get outdoors, even with an umbrella and get some fresh air. Being stuck indoors all day, especially during a stressful time is not good for our mental health. Go for a 5-20 minute walk a few times a day if possible.

5- Drink and eat well

Avoid eating unhealthy foods. Boost your immune system with nourishing foods and plenty of water.

6- Look out for each other

Be fine, come together as a community and look after one another.

7- Sort those aches and pains
